With American scientists’ breakthrough in nuclear fusion technology, will fossil fuels be gone any time soon?
Nuclear energy has long been touted as an environmentally friendly source of power, with the promise of no-emissions and low-cost electricity. However, the reality can be quite different. Nuclear power plants produce radioactive waste that is toxic for thousands of years and cannot be safely discarded without massive expense. Additionally, the risk of nuclear accidents from radiation leakages or meltdowns, like those experienced in Fukushima and Chernobyl, are a constant danger. Furthermore, the cost associated with building nuclear plants is extremely high, in part due to the technological complexity necessary to ensure safety. With these considerations in mind, it may be time to reconsider our trust in nuclear energy being a clean fuel for the world’s future.
